Practicing Zero waste religion

Just as Marcus in the "About A Boy" film mentions how his family was going to be a vegetarian as they were running out of sausages, I became interested in Zero waste concept as my family was also poor and I grew up watching my mom practicing zero waste ideals.

Her favorite hobby was darning my dad's socks, sometimes embroidery on flour bags and turning them to table cloth. We had no dining table. so we spread the table cloth on the floor and sat cross-legged around it.

She also filled our pillows with old clothes, none of our pillow were filled with cotton. Once we were back to our country, I noticed she and my youngest brother collected dried tree branches for use as fuel in oven for baking bread or in heating oven for warming the house during winter.

One time, heavy snow caused felling and breaking pine trees, their branches and flowers. My dad, brothers and our neighborhood men went to collect them to use as fuel.

Now, here I am. Someone sent me some shirts & jeans to do whatever I'd like with them. I don't know anything about tailoring but I always wanted to learn. So I watched some YouTube videos and decided to turn them into a bag, mat, chair pad, & bed sheet.

Currently working on a quilted bed sheet. I will upload the photos once it's done.

Here's some of my previous projects, all stitched by hand as I don't have any sewing machine:

Chair pad out of old shirts, towel & pillow case

Mat out of old jeans & shirts

Mat out of old jeans & shirts

Tote bag out of old jean

Windmill bag out of jeans & shirts

MCO will start again

Last week Covid-19 had an enormous feast here. Covid-19 cases spiked twice here. 2593 cases had been reported on 6 Jan, and then 3027 cases on 7 Jan. Health DG Dr. Noor Hisham said: for flattening the curve, we need new solutions. Otherwise the number of Covid-19 cases will reach to 8000 per day on March.
Today the government announced MCO will be re-implemented in 6 states include Selangor from 13-26 Jan. I really hope this doesn't affect our hiking.

Note: I've just read that Bukit Gasing is closed due to MCO, can't go hiking until further notice :( . 16 Jan update

Feminine Tasbih

2 days ago for the first time in my life, I saw feminine tasbih beads in an Islamic Dakwah shop in Amcorp Mall and realized all the tasbih I saw in Iran and Afghanistan were very masculine. It was RM30, so I didnt consider it worth a purchase. Otherwise I could use it for "I'm a wonder woman" or "I'm the chosen one" zikr.

Start writing in English

I'm not good at writing in English at all and every year I promised myself to start writing in English, but I often don't take my goals seriously and let laziness take control of my goals. So, I finally decided to devote this blog to writing in English after reading the English version of Anne Frank's diaries.

Hiking as new habit

Last month, I have started hiking in Bukit Gasing with a friend. It's a tropical forest which straddles KL as well as the Selangor state. There are several hiking trails in Bukit Gasing but we are not familiar with all the routes. With each hike we would progressively try different routes and progressively make ourselves more familiar with Bukit Gasing.

Every time, we would also have to make sure to have mosquito repellant as there are many mosquitoes in some parts and sweaty hikers make a perfect feast for them.

Invisible god vs visible god

I always wonder how followers of Abrahamic religions came out with the idea of an "invisible god". This Saturday afternoon lookin...
